SEARCH RECOMMENDATIONS
The Stratford Army Engine Plant records are categorized in accordance with the breakdown structure shown on the Document Categories page, which can be used as a guide if you are searching for a document in association with a particular phase of remediation. The table of records also can be searched by typing a search term of choice in the search box above the table. Below are some tips and recommendations to keep in mind as you browse the records.
Performing Searches
To search the records for a particular document, type a search term in the Search box at the top right corner of the records table. This will search all of the coded data, or metadata, associated with the document image. This search function does not search the text within each document – it only searches the data as shown in the table (file name, document title/description, authors, recipients, and dates). Some examples of keyword searches include date, year, key term or acronym, and author or recipient first or last name. Once you have entered your search term, the table will display only the rows that contain that term.
Here are some useful tips for performing searches:
-
-
- The table can be filtered to show only a specific type of document at once. To do this, select a type from the Document Type drop-down menu above the table. For instance, when you select Report, the table shows only documents that are reports. Only one document type can be selected at a time. When a document type is selected from this drop-down menu, the Search box only searches for records with that particular document type. To clear your selection and return the table to showing all records and document types, click the word that appears directly below the Document Type drop-down menu (see the highlighted area on this screenshot).
-
-
-
- To search for a specific category and type of document, enter the four-digit category number from the table on the Document Categories page. This type of category search is useful when you to view documents associated with a particular phase of remediation. For example, searching for 02.04 will show all work plan-related documents associated with the Remedial Investigation phase.
-
-
-
- When searching by date, use the date format M/D/YYYY. For example, to find a document dated October 2, 2008, enter 10/2/2008. To find a document dated May 10, 2005, enter 5/10/2005. To find all documents from a specific year, simply enter the year by itself.
-
-
-
- If your search is not returning desired results, try shortening the search term. For example, for the term Non-Time Critical Removal Action, try searching NCRA.
-
-
-
- Author and recipient names are coded with last names listed first. For example, to search for all documents from or to Joe Smith, enter Smith, Joe.
-
-
-
- If no documents contain your search term, you will see the following message: “No matching records found.” To try another search term, simply delete the text from the search box and try a new term.

Sorting and Navigation
The records table contains hundreds of records and defaults to showing 50 at a time. You can navigate through all the records using the page numbers and “Previous” or “Next” buttons at the bottom of the table. To show more or fewer records at once, choose a number from the drop-down menu at the top left corner of the table. To show all records at once, select “All” from this menu. The search box will search the entire table for your search term, regardless of the number you have selected in this drop-down menu.
By default, the table is sorted in order by document category and number. You can sort the table in several other ways by clicking on the blue column headers in the first row of the table. Here are some useful tips for sorting the table:
-
-
- To sort by author or recipient name, click the Author(s) or Recipient(s) headers. Clicking the header once (arrow pointing up) will sort by last name in ascending order (A to Z). Clicking the header again (arrow pointing down) will sort by last name in descending order (Z to A).
-
-
-
- To sort by date, click the Date header. Clicking the header once (arrow pointing up) will sort from oldest to newest, starting with undated documents listed as “Unknown.” Clicking the header again (arrow pointing down) will sort from newest to oldest.
-
-
-
- To sort by page count, click the Approx no. of pages header. Clicking the header once (arrow pointing up) will sort from smallest to largest. Clicking the header again (arrow pointing down) will sort from largest to smallest.
-
-
-
- You can only sort by one column at a time. To clear the sorting and return to the default table, simply refresh the page.
